Research Areas
The main research directions of me and my research team include: (1) persistent memory storage system and technologies, (2) flash storage system and technologies, (3) network (/cloud/big data) storage system and key technologies, (4) data storage reliability, and (5) intelligent storage-computing converged system
Research Overview
(1) In the aspect of persistent memory storage system and technologies, we have conducted in-depth research on persistent memory programming model, data structure, memory management and distributed persistent memory file system, persistent memory reliability, and PIM architecture, to address a series of problems and challenges in the construction of persistent memory storage system, such as mismatch of architectures, difficulty of consistency guarantee, and low software efficiency. We build TH-DPMS, the first general distributed persistent memory storage system in the world, which provides a persistent memory programming model with multiple interfaces such as memory, object, transaction, file, key-value, and so on.
(2) In the aspect of flash storage system and technologies, we have developed TH-SSS, a flash memory storage system with hardware/software co-design, to address the contradiction between flash memory device architecture and flash memory characteristics and disk-centric storage architecture and software design.
(3) In the aspect of network (/cloud/big data) storage system and key technologies, mainly focusing on the performance, scalability, compatibility, ease of use, security, ease of management and other issues faced in network(/cloud/big data) storage system, we developed a domestic network storage system with independent intellectual property rights - Tsinghua Mass Storage Network System, i.e., TH-MSNS.
(4) In the aspect of data reliability in storage systems, to address the problems of fault tolerance capacity (i.e., single fault tolerance, double fault tolerance, and multi-fault tolerance), performance (i.e., coding efficiency), and storage utilization of erasure codes, we have proposed and implemented several high-performance and practical techniques of erasure codes.
(5) In the aspect of intelligent storage-computing converged system, the near-data intelligent system called TH-iSSD has been developed, which is a distributed platform that integrates storage and computation, and efficiently perform the fusion of data sensing, storage and computation at the edge. TH-iSSD is characterized by high performance, low power consumption, high integration and reliability.
