From July 11 to 12, the 2026 ACM China Turing Congress was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Dr. Minhui Xie, a 2024 PhD graduate of the Department of Computer Science, received the 2025 ACM China Doctoral Dissertation Award. His doctoral advisor was Associate Professor Youyou Lu of the Department of Computer Science.

Dr. Xie’s doctoral dissertation, titled “Research on Memory System for Recommendation Models,” addresses the memory capacity wall and bandwidth wall caused by the trillions of sparse parameters used in recommendation models. By leveraging emerging memory technologies, the dissertation optimizes hierarchical memory systems from the perspectives of both capacity expansion and caching, significantly improving parameter-access efficiency as well as model training and inference performance. The resulting technologies have been deployed in Kuaishou’s production recommendation systems.

Dr. Xie is currently a lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at the School of Information, Renmin University of China. His primary research interests include storage systems and machine learning systems. He has published more than 20 papers in CCF-A conferences and journals, including SC, EuroSys, USENIX ATC, ASPLOS, and VLDB. He has also served as a reviewer for international conferences and journals such as EuroSys, IEEE TPDS, IEEE TC, and ACM TACO.

Dr. Xie was selected for the Beijing Association for Science and Technology’s Young Talent Support Program. His honors include the ACM SIGOPS China Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award, the Wu Yuzhang Young Talent Award, and the Yulan Young Scholar Award. He has led projects funded by the Young Scientists Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Beijing Natural Science Foundation, and several university–industry collaboration programs.

Established by ACM, the ACM China Doctoral Dissertation Award is presented annually to two doctoral graduates who have achieved outstanding research accomplishments in computer science in China. The award recognizes their exceptional academic contributions and encourages the continued development of promising young researchers.
